Formulated with grass fed and finished tallow and pure organic ingredients, this tick tallow is effective at repelling ticks, mosquitos, and many other nuisance bugs. We know that many natural bug repellants can be minimally effective and we wanted to create something that has clean, natural ingredients yet still holds up to other commercial bug repellents. We have put lots of time and effort into researching the most effective ingredients and their proper concentrations for high efficacy. Each ingredient has been chosen very intentionally. We have deliberately left out ingredients that have been shown to be unsafe for children in an effort to produce something that entire families can use.
While many natural and DIY bug repellents are a 1-3% concentration, our Tick Tallow is made at a 5% concentration for maximum efficacy while still being an acceptable concentration for use on skin.
Our products are not FDA approved and we always encourage you to patch test on the feet before using elsewhere. Safety studies on many natural ingredients, including essential oils, are rarely conducted and therefore, most major health experts do not recommend them for full body use or use on children. We have done extensive research to avoid ingredients that are known to be dangerous in order to produce a product that you can feel comfortable using on the entire family, but please know that our products have not been approved by the FDA and are not intended to treat, cure, or prevent disease.

Why have we chosen these ingredients?
Coconut Oil: The fatty acids in coconut oil are effective at repelling ticks
Beef Tallow: Animal fats are effective at repelling ticks and other bugs. The beef tallow base also locks in the essential oils for longer lasting effects.
Geranium - Repels ticks by masking the CO2 required for them to find a feed on a host
Cedarwood - Repels ticks. Certain studies have shown it can kill nymphs.
Citronella - Natural, EPA-registered bug repellent. Used to mask the scent that attracts many bugs, especially mosquitos. When mixed with thyme, it has shown to be particularly helpful in repelling ticks
Lavender - Studies have shown lavender to be a natural tick and bug deterrent, repelling from 70-100% against certain ticks. A study done in 2021 showed it to be comparable with DEET for up to 2 hours after application.
Eucalyptus - Insecticide and tick repellent, Studies have shown it to be as effective as DEET for repelling deer and lone star ticks when used at at least 5% concentration.
Thyme - Increases potency of other ingredients. Studies have shown when thyme is added, it increases repellency against both nymph and adult ticks by up to 83%.
Spearmint - Repellent for spiders, ants, mosquitos, and ticks. Can kill ticks on contact if high enough concentration for the size of the tick. Studies have shown that a 5% concentration significantly reduces attachment of ticks within 3 minutes of being on the body. This same 5% concentration has shown to have similar repellent effects as 20% DEET.
